Welcome to Year 5!  Mrs Turney teaches in Leopard Class on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Mrs Keating-Jones teaches in there on Thursdays and Fridays.  Mrs Williams teaches in Panda Class all week.

 

In Year 5, reading books and children’s Reading Records need to be in school every day.  Your child will be read with by an adult at any available moment.  Please ensure that your child reads as much as possible at home each week and that this is recorded in their Reading Record.  Children in Year 5 are encouraged to take ownership over changing their reading books regularly and are reminded to do this by their teachers.

 

Children are given a half-term’s worth of spelling resources at the beginning of every half-term so they may learn at their own pace, and it is advised that children practise their spellings using the school’s subscription to Spelling Shed each week ahead of their weekly spelling tests in class.  Children have their logins stuck into their Reading Records.

 

Additionally, it is essential that your child is practising their times-tables regularly using Times-Table Rockstars.  Your child's knowledge and quick recall of times-table facts provides them with a clear understanding for large proportions of the Maths curriculum in Year 5.

 

Our P.E. lessons will be on Mondays and Tuesdays.  Please ensure your child comes into school wearing the correct P.E. kit.  Lessons can be indoors or outdoors dependent on the weather.  If your child wears earrings, they will need to be removed prior to the sessions.  Children are unable to participate when wearing earrings or any other kind of jewellery that have not been removed or taped in special circumstances (such as fresh piercings that cannot be removed).
