At St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School, we aim to offer excellence and choice to our children, whatever their ability or needs. We have high expectations of all our children and aim to remove any barriers to learning for them, ensuring equal access to all opportunities.

We understand that all children have different educational needs and aspirations and they develop different strategies for learning, therefore requiring a range of different teaching approaches and experiences.

Our Inclusion Team works in partnership with all staff across the school to ensure all children are supported to engage with learning and feel successful in their time at St Francis of Assisi. We want children to be confident when met with any challenges they may face, as this is essential for them to grow their self-esteem and see themselves as learners.

Barriers to learning can be academic, social or emotional. At St Francis of Assisi we have staff in place to be able to identify these barriers, assess their impact and then adjust and provide provision appropriately. This is done sensitively and monitored closely to ensure the child’s progress and welfare is always considered.

The strategy for delivering the provision can range from additional support in the classroom as part of the lesson, for example checking understanding before starting a task, but can also be an intervention that requires a child to leave the classroom for a small group session or a session spent one to one with another member of staff.

The school accesses a range of external professionals to ensure more specialised sessions of intervention are effective, these include:

  • Educational Psychologists
  • Speech and Language Therapists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • the School Nursing Team
  • Play Therapists

We continually review the progress of children with SEND and work closely with parents to ensure they have a clear understanding of provision and progress.

We are committed to giving all our children every opportunity to achieve the highest of standards.
